Character: Spock
Canon: Star Trek
Version: Reboot (2009 and 2013 films)
Canon Point: Post Star Trek: Into Darkness
Age: ~29
Gender: Male
History: http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Spock_%28alternate_reality%29
Personality:
Calm, cool, logical and emotional; these are the words that describe Spock. He is extremely formal and always acting in a professional manner. Everything about him reflects his need for logic, order and control. His uniform is always pressed, there is never a hair out of place on his head, and he always speaks with intelligence.
Emotion: This is an odd thing to fear, but emotion is a sign of weakness as it opposes logic. In the traditional ways of Vulcan society, logic controls all. In Vulcan there are only two routes one can take; logic or emotional. Those who go the logical path are considered to be normal and are a member of society, while those who chose emotions are outcast-ed. It is because of this stigma that he believes he is betraying his race or becoming an outcast when he becomes emotional compromised.
Some Vulcans even go through a ritual to purge themselves of all emotions for the rest of their lives, many do not complete this practice but it was something that Spock considered. As a child of both Vulcan and Earth, Spock has to choose believe being Vulcan or human. At first he chose Vulcan, but he felt guilty as he thought it would reflect judgment on his mother. It was after the Vulcan council called his human mother a handicap that he denied himself of the science academy and went to Starfleet. Spock is very prone to emotional outbursts for a Vulcan. The major ‘berserk’ buttons that causes him to snap are his human mother and James T. Kirk.
James T. Kirk: It is not a fear of the man, but a fear of losing him. At the climax of Into Darkness, Kirk and Spock share an emotional moment as Kirk’s life slips away. It was in that moment that he realized that this man was his friend and he was dying. The idea of losing him made the emotional distant Spock shed a tear, something he didn’t do when his own mother died and his entire planet was destroyed. With Kirk dead, Spock becomes emotionally compromised and flies into an unrelenting rage. He chased Khan, the man responsible, down and nearly took his life before Lieutant Uhura arrives to tell Spock that they need Khan alive to save Kirk.
Weaknesses:
Logic: A double edged sword. Spock sees the logic (or illogic) in everything. While this makes him extremely intelligent, it doesn’t allow him to be as free with his thoughts. It is stated many times in canon that it is difficult for him to break the Starfleet Code. He follows the rules to the exact detail, even to the point where he would rather have his own life taken than to break the Starfleet code.
Chocolate: It gets Vulcans drunk. Go figure.
Vulcan Biology: Being from a desert planet his body has been cultivated to survive in extreme heat, not cold. His body lacks sweat glands, because Vulcans have evolved to absorb moisture and not waste it. His skin is hot to the touch, as is his breath because that is how excess heat escapes the Vulcan body.
Pon Farr: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pon_farrIt is a rather odd weakness, but once every seven years an adult Vulcan goes through Pon Farr; the Vulcan Mating Drive. With Pon Farr the Vulcan has the desperate urge to mate, so much so that they are driven into insanity if they do not. In this fragile time the Vulcan may becomes extremely violent to those around them.
However, a Vulcan can only mate with their bond mate, someone who either their parents chose for them or someone they select themselves and created the mental connection. If they have sex with someone other than their bond mate, they risk the chance of severely harming or even killing their would be mate. Being that Vulcan and most of it’s 6 billion inhabitants were killed when the planet was destroyed, it is assumed that Spock’s bond mate was killed. In a normal situation this would cause the living Vulcan to drive into depression and cause eventual suicide, but he and his bond mate were not close as it was arranged when they were children.
Mundane Strengths/Abilities:
Intelligence: Spock is a super computer. He always had something to say about anything academic and speaks with intelligence (and a bit of sass) with each word. Being that he was taught everything logical since he was able to speak, it is only natural that is he an expect at computers, technology and well...everything. He prides himself on being the chief science officer and commander of Starfleet’s flagship.
Combat training: Being in Starfleet he is an adept solider. He has skills in hand to hand combat as well as gun manship. However, these skills were not just learned in Starfleet, it is seen as a child that he is able to take down a much older boy in a fight and win.
His attacks mainly focus on nerve points and using the opponents weight against them. The most famous move is the “Vulcan Nerve Pinch”. This move even caused the super human Khan to fall to his knees in pain.
Vulcan Biology: As a Vulcan he is stronger, faster, more intelligent and has greater stamina than a human. In canon he is seen to be able to over power a genetic super human for several seconds and hold his own in a fist fight against him. He also requires less sleep than a human and has green blood. Yeah.
Sensitivity/Magical Ability:
Touch Telepathy: All Vulcan’s are touch telepathic. They have the ability to ‘mind meld’ with other sentient beings and share their own memories and feelings as well as look into the others. This ability only happens with skin on skin contact, but even then it is mostly up to the user what is seen or taken- as long as their mental shields are kept up.
This telepathy is also what creates the mental bond required in a bondmate. The Vulcan reaches out to their desired mate, and if the feelings are returned then a mental bond between them is formed. Through this bond they are mentally connected and can communicate telepathically between each other, ever if the other mate had no innate psychic abilities.
Supply List:
Phaser Pistol: A hand held laser gun. It has the two setting; stun and kill.
Tricorder: A multifunction hand-held device used for sensor scanning, data analysis, and recording data.
Communicator:
Game Transfers: None.
Sample RP post:
The quiet hum of machinery filled the small, white room. The air was crisp and clean as it blew in from the open window. Spock had been told that fresh air was good for healing, and this California breeze was about as fresh as he could get. Even he had to admit that it was a refreshing change from the air in a Starfleet vessel, which often became stale with time.
His focus, however, was less on his own needs, and more so on the man on the hospital bed in front of him. The sight of the beaten and unconscious Starfleet captain James T. Kirk was all that the Vulcan had in his vision. Spock had not left his captain’s side since the incident a week ago.
His mind was running wild under his calm, expressionless exterior. The events played back in his head as if they had happened merely minutes ago. He could feel his emotions rising, against the logical thought of Jim no longer being in danger. They were too powerful for him to control; the sadness and fear he felt as he watched the life from Jim’s eyes slip away behind that glass door, and the killer rage against Khan that overcame him as a result.
His eyes closed as his body tensed. He must have meditated nearly 48 hours in total this past week, just to keep these emotions under control. It still didn’t seem to be enough. He knew his emotions wouldn’t be under control until Jim was awake, until he knew that Dr. McCoy’s serum had worked.
Dark eyes ripped away from Captain Kirk’s body and stared at the machine that was monitoring his vitals; all green, a steady heart rate, normal breathing, and cell radiation at a minimal. He was perfectly fine now, he just had to wake up. A sudden thought came to mind and caused Spock’s heart to skip a beat.
What if he didn’t wake up? It wasn’t unheard of for trauma patients to just never wake up. Jim had died; that was about as traumatic as one could get. Even if all of his vitals logically stated that he should, there was still a 4.5% chance that Dr. McCoy’s procedure was a failure and that he would not recover. Even if logic stated that the odds were in Jim Kirk’s favor, Spock knew better than to let his guard down. Spock could not rest easy with the 4.5% looming over him like a vulture waiting to pick at the carcass.
His eyes went back to Jim’s body. It was odd to see his captain so still. He almost expected for Jim to just start talking to him, asking why he looked so worried or what he was doing at his bedside. He waited, but the questions never came. There was only the hum of machines.
“Jim,” It was illogical for him to speak, it was only speculation that the unconscious could hear, but it was comforting to him. “If you can hear me, I-“
This was completely illogical and foolish. He was glad that there was no one here to hear him. Even if there was no audience, he felt nervous to speak.
“I am sorry.” His voice was a whisper now as he spoke. “I could not comfort you in your time of passing, I failed you as your commander and friend.” Those annoying, uncontrollable emotions started to rise in him again. He had to pause his speech to regain control. His mouth opened after a few seconds but no words came out. The sound of shuffling fabric suddenly made him speechless.
He was moving. Jim’s hand twitched, grabbing a fistful of cloth. It was illogical to think that it was anything other than his body reacting to the treatment. It was most likely his nerves regenerating or just a simple twitch, but Spock made the illogical choice of taking it as sign that Jim heard him. His hand slowly and hesitantly reached forward. He could not comfort his friend in death, but he would be there this time.
“I am here, Jim.”
